the primary design challenge for myself and the architect lucy querales, AIA (sustainable architectural design), was to create an environment that encouraged collaboration and a sense of community while adhering to sustainable design principles and a limited budget. we transformed the simple idea of a forest guard chalet into a warm and inviting modern space.
the generic office floors are recessed in various places to reflect the natural context and to create communal indoor and outdoor areas and outstanding daylight conditions. at street level the building volume is opened by sheltered entrance zones. the contemporary design allows specific response whilst being highly efficient and flexible. as a result, the 2 floors of the building is both unique and generic.
the design includes an open and private meeting room (first floor), training room (second floor), conference rooms, storage, bathroom and kitchenette. the structure is white in color we've also developed lighting improvements, furniture specifications, and custom signage for the entire facility. special emphasis was given to natural ventilation and lighting as a bioclimatic feature.
